Monday, May 17th, 2010: RL Names Bison Designated Hitter Winner
There's nothing like being in the prime of your baseball career -- and playing like it. Just ask Sloan Newman, the Des Moines designated hitter, who swung a sweet bat all week to not only aid his team, but also pick up the Rob in Phoenix League Player of the Week honors.

Newman piled up 12 hits in 27 at-bats, 2 home runs and 7 RBIs while hitting .444.

This year Newman is batting .333 with 51 hits and 7 home runs. He has scored 38 times and has batted in 25 runs.

Sunday, May 16th, 2010: Canó Pitches Hawks to Shutout Victory
Miguel Canó proved to be just what the Hawks needed to silence the Des Moines bats. He allowed only 1 hit and led Carolina to an impressive 2-0 victory. For the game, Canó registered 6 strikeouts and 4 walks.

This year Canó has worked 73 innings with 70 strikeouts en route to a 6-3 record and 2.84 ERA.

Wednesday, May 5th, 2010: Fukuda Finalizes Contract Extension with Des Moines
Team officials were upbeat today as Kazuhiko Fukuda signed an extension with the Bison. He'll be calling Des Moines home for the next 2 years and will earn $3,000,000 in salary by the end of the contract.

So far this year Fukuda is batting .226 with 2 home runs.
