| Breaking News | | Tuesday, May 18th, 2010: Year Over for Atlantics Chaney Ben Chaney has to call it a season. The Brooklyn Atlantics starting pitcher sustained a season-ending injury against the Cambridge Scholars and will not play again this year according to club doctors. Chaney was injured while throwing a pitch. His doctors diagnosed it as a ruptured ulnar collateral ligament and stated that he would not be able to play for 10-11 months.
This year Chaney has a 0-2 mark in 1 starts with a 3.04 ERA. He has given up 29 hits in 26.2 innings, struck out 14 and issued 12 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .287 batting average against him. | | Monday, May 3rd, 2010: Stinson Bewilders Atlantics in Shutout Malcolm Stinson of the New Orleans Gators was on fire against Brooklyn. He shut them down 4-0 on 5 hits and no runs with 7 strikeouts and no walks.
"The first two pitches I'm looking for an out, a ground ball or a fly ball," Stinson said. "I'm trying to get quick outs. I've never been a big believer in trying to strike a guy out from the very first pitch. It's too easy to end up behind in the count doing that."
Thus far this season, Stinson has worked 45.2 innings with 39 strikeouts en route to a 2-2 record and a 2.17 ERA. | | Saturday, May 1st, 2010: April's Best FL Hurler is Godwin There's something about a young rookie winning the Freshmaker League Pitcher of the Month trophy that sends shock waves through the league. Such is the case with Dave Godwin, a 21-year-old starter for the Brooklyn Atlantics.
In April, he topped off the month with a 5-1 mark and 2.03 ERA in 6 starts, tossed 44.1 innings, fanned 47 and held opposing teams to a .210 average.
