Several teams have surfaced as a possible trading partner with St. Louis for Doug Corrigan -- or so rumor has it. Sources inside the Pioneers organization report that teams have inquired about making a deal for the 32-year-old left fielder.

The season is finished for Carl Whitney of the St. Louis Pioneers. The club announced today that he will forego the rest of the year because of injury. The Pioneers reliever suffered a torn labrum while throwing a pitch in a recent game against the New Orleans Gators. Team doctors said it would take at least 13 months to heal.

Akihisa Ozaki might be in the twilight of his career, but he is not going to leave the stage before the final act. Today the 34-year-old scribbled his signature on a $2,360,000-a-year deal with the Pioneers.
Some fans openly questioned the signing, saying they would prefer the club use its resources on younger talent.
